6 October 2007 - Constable Worden was killed Saturday after being shot in Hay River in the Northwest Territories.
Const. Christopher John Worden, 30, was responding to a call at a residence around 5 a.m. local time when police lost contact with him. More officers responding to the scene found he had been killed, police said.
"In a division as small as ours, where everyone knows one another, an incident such as this is felt very strongly," said Sgt. Larry O'Brien.
"Chris's family have been advised and his wife and child are being comforted by friends and members at this time," O'Brien said.
The incident happened in the small community near Great Slave Lake, 400 kilometres south of Yellowknife.
Worden joined the Mounties in 2002 and served most of his career in
the N.W.T.
Constable Worden's killer was finally captured and brought to trial.
