This coin design was a long time in the making. The design is explained thusly ...An American Eagle overlooks the proceedings as silhouetted representatives from each branch of service stands in salute for the Fallen.
Encircling the events of the center of the coin is a fire hose hose with nozzles crossed. At the top center of the hose is the Symbol of Life for all of the medical personnel involved with our Heroes, at the bottom are symbols representing Law Enforcement.
The flag-draped casket is center focus, but viewed from the side less seen by the public ... More the way it is seen by other troops. Front and center of the coffin is a silhouetted figure representing an injured/wounded Hero. It is left to the imagination which Hero category this figure is honoring.
This coin is meant to honor Military, Fire Services, Law Enforcement, Veterans & Active Duty, Wounded, Injured, and those Fallen in the Line of Duty.
*I have been asked if there was anyone in mind who was in any of the positions, and honestly, no. However, the person saluting from the wheelchair was inspired by a returned member of the Fort Lewis Strykers who lost both of his legs in the desert. I never knew his name, but I have never forgotten him.
Another distinction: This is the first time have released a matching t-shirt for a coin.
